Narva American Space book club: 'Awakening' by Kate Chopin - 1 June at 17.00.
This June, we invite you to a thoughtful evening immersing yourself in Kate Chopin's classic "Awakening".
Kate Chopin's moving story of love and tragedy has become a cornerstone of American literature. Her exploration of themes of marriage, self-discovery, and independence have made The Awakening a work that will resonate with readers and inspire American writers for generations to come. Through the journeys of Edna, Robert and other characters, the author invites us to reflect on timeless themes such as individuality and equality in a diverse society. These themes are as relevant today as they were when the novel first appeared, making it a powerful tool through which to explore the values that define us.
Whether you have long admired Chopin's work or are just discovering his writings, this book club offers thoughtful discussion, empathy and an appreciation of the universal truths that unite us all.
As always: you can read the book in any language - it's your language!
has been translated into many languages - but English is the language of conversation in the book club.
The book club will be led by Catherine Sorokin, a Fulbright Assistant Professor of English who is passionate about language learning and cultural exchange. Originally from Connecticut, Catherine has lived in Vermont, London and most recently in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan. She majored in International and Global Studies with a concentration in History, Language and Geography. Catherine is looking forward to helping participants practice their English language skills and conducting meaningful conversations on literary topics.
